What was the highlight of Movich Club at Blue Diamond
Disappointing stay in resort requiring refurbishment
spacious rooms, staff are well meaning, has a nice pool area and beach access.
The hotel is not 5* nor luxury. Maybe it used to be - you can tell that it has the potential to be - a vast resort fronting the beach, set around cenotes and greenery. However, the hotel has degraded and needs serious and significant investment. The staff and management know this and in fairness made no opposition to us checking out early and refunding part of our stay. They commented that the process of upgrading is underway but not an overnight process - I respect that and hope that it might return to its former glories. Our issues were numerous: - The common areas, walkways and decking - dirty and broken in places. - Throughout the resort and especially near Aquamarina restaurant is a horrific smell of raw sewage, as though it is being dumped there. - The food: in our opinion it was really poor and not befitting of a 5*. We ate because it was all inclusive but the quality was not good, fish not fresh, meat was terrible. We had some joy in asking them to construct simple dishes to our liking, like avocado toast with boiled eggs and a plate of grilled vegetables. The sushi was ok. Drinks tasted watered down and way over sweetened. - The resort is set across a vast estate, probably a 20-25 minute walk from reception to the beach, with rooms along the way. There are golf buggies which pick you up bur these were infrequent. There are bikes but not many and pretty much all of them broken in a different way. Broken seats, no brakes etc. - Any time you phoned reception to ask for something, it didn’t happen. - We had a really significant issue with keys - none of them worked - day after day we would have to go back to reception after being locked out of the room. In a large hotel where it takes 15 minutes to reception and the same back, that’s a real inconvenience. On one occasion we had a period of 2 hours when we couldn’t get in the room, went backwards and forwards 3 times always with a key that didn’t work.
